Kamala Harris Takes Narrow Lead Over Donald Trump in New Poll

Democratic nominee Kamala Harris has edged out a 3% lead over her Republican opponent, Donald Trump, as the 2024 U.S. presidential election enters its final month. According to an October 8 New York Times/Siena College poll, Harris leads Trump by 49% to 46%, marking her first lead since July.

Conducted between September 29 and October 6 with 3,385 likely voters, the poll suggests Harris is making gains on issues related to temperament, trust, and change—key factors in this tight race. Despite this, national polling shows the race remains too close to call.

In contrast, Polymarket’s prediction market forecast paints a different picture, with Trump leading Harris 52% to 46% as of Tuesday morning. X CEO Elon Musk recently backed the prediction market, claiming it’s “more accurate than polls” due to the involvement of real money.

Cryptocurrencies Play a Role in the 2024 Election

Cryptocurrency policy has emerged as a talking point for both candidates. Trump has taken a strong pro-crypto stance, recently launching his family’s crypto platform, “World Liberty Financial,” and warning that the sector would suffer if he loses the election. He has criticized the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for its tough stance on crypto and promised to replace SEC Chair Gary Gensler if elected, shifting the regulatory focus to industry-friendly policies.

On the other hand, Harris has also voiced her support for digital asset innovation, emphasizing a balanced approach that fosters technological progress while protecting consumers. During a campaign stop in Pittsburgh, she promised to create a “safe business environment” with clear and transparent regulations for emerging technologies like AI and cryptocurrencies.
