LEGO Targeted in Crypto Scam with Fake "LEGO Coin" Advertisement

On October 5, LEGO's official website became the target of a crypto scam. For a brief period, a banner promoting a fake cryptocurrency called "LEGO Coin" appeared on the company's homepage. Fortunately, the company quickly removed the banner, revealing that the advertised coin was fraudulent.

The scam was active for just 75 minutes before being taken down. According to the LEGO team, no users fell victim to the scam.

The fraudulent advertisement promised "secret rewards" to users. However, several LEGO enthusiasts quickly identified it as fake. The banner appeared on the website during LEGO's collaboration with Fortnite.

Clicking the link in the banner redirected users to another website, allowing the purchase, sale, and trading of the so-called LEGO Coin. However, no further information about the coin was available.

One user on X, ZTBricks, was among the first to notice the scam. They shared screenshots of the suspicious link, which resembled a Uniswap page.

A LEGO spokesperson confirmed that no users were affected by the scam. Once the banner was removed, the website was restored to normal. The spokesperson also mentioned, "We have identified the cause and are taking steps to ensure this does not happen again."

LEGO has previously shown interest in cryptocurrency and blockchain technologies. In April 2022, LEGO’s parent company, KIRKBI, invested $1 billion in Epic Games to support Metaverse development. There were also brief discussions about entering the NFT market, though those plans were quickly scrapped. Additionally, LEGO released collectible coins in 2021, though they were not related to cryptocurrency.
